Children Learning Disabilities and Vision Therapy
Vision Therapy can be a very effective tool for treating children learning disabilities, and it remains one of the most practical and easy to implement therapies available to help learning disabilities worldwide.
Helping children with learning disabilities is a controversial and often confusing task because professionals working in the field do not often agree on the best mode of treatment. As the academics and intellectuals posture and argue, it is the child and the parent s who remain confused and overwhelmed by the process. In this article I want to explore the ability of vision therapy to help those with children learning disabilities and attempt to understand why parents should consider this treatment, and how it can possibly help their child as they struggle to read and learn.
Are Children Learning Disabilities Increasing Worldwide?
Children learning disabilities are increasing worldwide despite our obvious advances in teaching techniques and information technology, and this may be due in part to the increased ability we have in testing and detecting children learning disabilities. Years ago children with learning disabilities were pushed to the back of the class and ignored, but now concerned parents are seeking help for their children in any way that they can, including learning disabilities online help.
The central question concerning the parents of kids who have children learning disabilities is this: does my child have a brain problem, or is there something practical we can do to actually improve their performance? Dyslexia is a common diagnosis these days, yet there are very few valid treatment options for a true dyslexic, where the child’s brain is unable to interpret and process information effectively. For such a child the effectiveness of treatments such as vision therapy is certainly reduced, and parents often find themselves looking at drugs or psychotherapy in an attempt to help their children with learning disabilities.
The good news is that many children with learning disabilities do not have a significant brain dysfunction, and so we can look at easier to treat, practical methods for helping them, such as vision therapy.
How To Help Children Learning Disabilities
Children learning disabilities means that these kids frequently struggle with the development of skills which are essential to their reading ability. If they have not concentrated well for several years, the chances are that they have not developed the skills other children have developed at a comparable age, and therefore lag behind in their reading, writing and spelling. This lag increases through the years, and vision therapy is a very effective tool to help them develop these essential skills.
As someone who has worked extensively with vision therapy for children learning disabilities over many years, I see vision therapy as a quick and efficient means of developing essential visual skills in these children. I liken it to playing football or learning an instrument: if you take time out to practice the skills, you will most assuredly improve the person’s ability to do the task. Learning scales is not actually playing the piano, but if you learn this skill and get very good at it, you will be a better piano player. It’s the same with reading!
Vision therapy is an attempt to train the skills a child needs to read. They need to move their eyes accurately and confidently: vision therapy can train this. They need to remember symbols, letters or words: vision therapy can train this too. So many of the skills that children can and should develop naturally as they grow, fall behind in children with learning disabilities, and these can most definitely be helped using the right vision therapy techniques. Up until recently concerned parents were paying hundreds and even thousands of dollars to get these therapies from a locally based Behavioral Optometrist, but I have just changed the rules with regards vision therapy.
I have just launched a brand new vision therapy program called “Learning @ Lightspeed”, and you can download this anywhere in the world for a fraction of the cost that other therapies charge. This is a comprehensive, ground breaking program you can do at home with your child and it guarantees effective and positive results for your child.
So finally effective vision therapy is available for children learning disabilities that is cheap, easy to understand and apply and actually works.
