Have you tried multifocal glasses and decided that you hate multifocals? Many people are forced into the wrong type of multifocals and have a horrible experience, but often they have either had the wrong advice or been directed to the wrong design of multifocal. That’s why we spend more time with our multifocal wearers to offer options, so we can find the best lenses available currently on the market.
And, most importantly, our Optometrist Darin Browne has PERSONALLY TRIED all of the multifocals we provide to our patients. He’s not some newly graduated kid telling you what the advertising blurb says, he tries them himself, and then either accepts or rejects them, depending on his expert appraisal.
Multifocals or graduated lenses are lenses which feature a change of focus as you move your eyes through the lens. Generally the top portion is your distance prescription, and as you lower your eyes the focus passes through an intermediate distance (which is often used for computers) through to your reading prescription at the bottom of the lens.
So why do so many people have a bad experience with these lenses?
There are several reasons why people struggle with and hate multifocals, including…
Going for Cheap Multifocals
With cheap multifocals you save $100 and get 2 years of misery! Is that really worth it? Many chain store Optometrists only have cheap multifocals, bu at our practice we have the full range, and we can offer you superb quality for not much more that the inferior lenses promoted by certain other firms!
Badly Fitted Lenses
Multifocal lenses must be fitted properly, by someone who knows what they are doing! The heights of centres, distances between eyes and depth of the focus change are absolutely critical in fitting a multifocal lens.
In our office, Darin fits all of these lenses, he does not leave this critical measurements to non Optometrists, so you can be assured they are done properly. Plus, ALL of our multifocals come with a guarantee, so you can try them with complete confidence and they won’t finish up in the bottom of a drawer!
The Wrong Frame
Choosing the wrong frame to hold the multifocal lenses is another common mistake. That’s why Darin oversees the selection of the frame, not only finding one that looks great and fits your budget, but also one that is the correct depth and width for your especially ground multifocal lenses.
Having the Wrong Design Chosen for Them
There are many designs of multifocal, and Darin can design exactly the right lens for your specific needs. Some can be worn all the time, some favour distance over near while others are designed for office work, favouring intermediate and near. He can even sit down and design the best possible lenses for your profession, and he’s done this for everyone from surgeons to technicians, golfers to computer workers.
Being Unable to Compromise
Any multifocal requires a degree of adaptation and compromise on your part, but Darin can step you through what is required, and make expert recommendations as to the type of design for your needs, and what you will need to do in order to adapt to your new lenses.
So if you hate multifocals, don’t despair, come and talk to us. We can give you alternatives within the current technology, then walk the journey with you so that you have every chance of doing well with multifocals. However, if you really hate multifocals and don’t want to try them again, we can work to find another lens or lenses that will help you. Just talk to us!
