Blurred vision is a common symptom experienced by people both old and young, male and female.
The Nasty Side of Blurred Vision
If you are vision goes blurry all of a sudden then this is a key warning sign that something serious may be wrong in your eyes.
If vision is suddenly blurred in one eye, the worst-case scenario is that you have retinal detachment or tear, and this is an emergency and must be treated immediately. For this reason, it’s important that you get to an optometrist for a complete eye examination immediately.
If the blur comes and goes, then it may have a variety of causes.
One common cause is excessive focusing, which can leave your eyes blurry in the distance or for periods of time up close. The solution to this is a simple set of reading glasses or multifocals, and these work extremely well in decreasing the blurred vision symptoms.
Another possible cause for blur that comes and goes is migraines. Interestingly, these may or may not be associated with pain. If the area of the brain affected by the migraine is in the visual cortex, you will see visual effects such as blurred vision, and sometimes odd shapes living in front of your eyes.
Another possible cause involves what are called “floaters.” These are actually pieces of coagulated protein which form naturally in the vitreous at the back of the eye, and when they float close to the retina that cast a shadow on the retina causing blurred vision.
Whatever the cause, the most important thing is that you have a complete and comprehensive eye examination whenever you experienced blurred vision, even just for a short time.
In most offices like ours your eye test is Bob build, so we will not even cost you anything out of your pocket to make sure that there is no ongoing and devastating eye disease.
Blurred vision is not a normal thing, but comes about for a variety of reasons including excessive close work, retinal tears, eye bleeds and migraines.
Because you are unsure of the cause when you experienced blurred vision, getting your eyes tested by competent optometrist is an important thing to do.
